Gilligan’s Island: Bloopers Fans May Have Missed
Gilligan’s Island became a beloved television classic after running from 1964 to 1967. While fans remember its hilarious adventures, the show also contained plenty of funny mistakes and hidden details.
One noticeable blooper appears in the season-two opening credits. Although there were supposed to be seven castaways, eight people can be seen aboard the boat. The extra people were reportedly stand-ins used for distant shots.

Other mistakes are scattered throughout the series. In The Friendly Physician, part of the CBS studio lot can be seen in the background. During the raft scenes, viewers can also spot the edge of the movie tank and even a boom-mic shadow.
There were also some amusing actor-related bloopers. Natalie Schafer briefly opened her eyes while pretending to be unconscious, while Bob Denver’s wedding ring could be seen even though Gilligan was unmarried.
Behind the scenes, Alan Hale Jr. reportedly went to great lengths to audition for the role of the Skipper. Meanwhile, The Professor and Mary Ann were initially left out of the opening theme, but their growing popularity eventually earned them a place in season two.
These little mistakes may have gone unnoticed for years, but they are part of what makes Gilligan’s Island so entertaining—and give longtime fans even more reasons to revisit the classic show.
